Officially, the first anniversary was back in November, but I didn’t actually get organised until the end of the year, due to NaNoWriMo, setting up my Stripe account and finding publications that would publish my content.
So, I really don’t count anything that happened until January 1st, 2024.
In 2024, I published over 250 pieces, including Flash Fiction, Drabbles (100-word stories), responses to prompts and personal pieces. Also included in that total are several freestyle poems and chapters of serial fiction from what turned into three full-length novels.
About 90% of these stories were exclusively written (at short notice) for Medium, one of the chapter works has since been republished as an eBook, the second is now my freebie giveaway and the other will follow in due course.
I’ve even made a bit of money on the platform, after covering the cost of my subscription and I’ve made a few new friends, some writers like me, some readers and some who do a bit of both.
Writing in response to prompts has opened a whole new way of creating and has given me a lot of new ideas.
Like this one, the ongoing adventures of Winona, a reluctant superhero.
Or this, a new Crime Noir/Sci-fi mashup.
As well as developing new characters to write about, I’ve discovered some great new writing and enjoyed spending time finding new things to read. Articles that have made me think and have helped me to develop more as a writer.
There’s also been a spin-off from all this extra writing. I’ve resurrected my YouTube channel and am currently making audio versions of several of my favourite pieces of short fiction. I’ve solved the problem of having a face for radio by hiding behind a graphic based on the story.
I need to develop my presence on the platform over 2025, with new posts and, hopefully, some new publications to showcase them in.
