My plans for the New Year.

Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

Setting goals for 2025: what are your writerly New Year’s resolutions?

After a couple of weeks away, it’s good to be back. 2024 has been a rocky year, for all sorts of reasons. I fell out of love with my work and gave up on it for a while. I ceased all attempts to market while I tried to rediscover the pleasure I used to feel in simply writing. After a break, I feel ready to start again.

My agenda for 2025.

My first job is to complete and publish Andorra Pett Meets Her Match, the novel I wrote during NaNoWriMo. My goal is to have the book on sale in April or May. It’s the latest part in an ongoing series and people have been asking me for it.

On the dusty plains of Mars and in the Caves of Tharsis, Andorra Pett is on a mission.

She has to return to where Maisie met her end, there’s unfinished business to attend to. But things have changed on Mars, this isn’t going to be the easy job that she’d hoped it would be.

If that wasn’t enough, her partner, Derek’s, daughter, the one who tried to kill her, is due to be released from prison. She’s on Mars, too.

Which means Derek will have a reunion with the wife who left him. Where more secrets are sure to come out.

Meanwhile, all the people who Andorra’s upset recently are gathering, ready for what might be a final showdown.

Is this the end of the road for Andorra?

Then, there are several other things that I’d like to do.

I want to work on my Steampunk adventure, Murder Most Foul. It was written for Medium, as an episodic serial in a pared-down format. The chapters were designed to fit the need for short, punchy episodes with lots of action and a cliffhanger ending for each part. Now, I can expand on it, calm things down a little, and fill the narrative out. It’s currently just under 30k words, I’d like to get it to around 70k.

I want to add a lot more worldbuilding and backstory, then I will publish it as the first part of a new Steampunk series. I already have a potential cover.

As well as carrying on with the novels and serials that I have in progress, I want to extend some of the other new ideas I’m getting. I think at least one of them can be more than a short story. This will involve a return to Medium, which I’ve neglected a little recently.

I’d like to increase my presence on YouTube, I have loads of short pieces to narrate and add to my channel.

I intend to try and grow my Newsletter, and run a few more Bookfunel promotions each month, to gain subscribers and sales.

I have a new reader magnet, My Sister Alex, to give away, which I’m hopeful will drive more subscribers to my newsletter and website. It’s an exclusive Sci-fi/Crime story of novella length, which I won’t be publishing on Amazon (or anywhere else).

If that wasn’t enough, I’m sure I can think of a few more things to do, to keep me out of mischief.

It only remains to wish you all a Happy New Year.

I love that train cover! Hope you find yourself back at it. I’ve struggled to fit it in with my schedule for years now. I cannot wait to retire and stop that merry-go-round.

Thanks, I’m a huge Steampunk fan. I’m slowly getting my mojo back, I feel better when I don’t put pressure on myself to market.
