The Tracks of my Years

Recommend music to the other authors to check out that may not be mainstream to them.

My apologies in advance for the shorter-than-usual post. I’m knee deep in what used to be called NaNoWriMo. It’s going well so far.

I’m afraid that, when it comes to music, I’m firmly stuck at around 1979, most of the stuff since then, with a very few exceptions, bores me with its simplicity.

And don’t get me started on the use of autotune, samples, enhanced backing tracks and all the other fancy technical gadgets that are used to modify and enhance what you hear in new music.

As far as I’m concerned, they’re just a replacement for talent. All I want are instruments or microphones plugged straight into amplifiers.

When I’m not writing, I love to trawl YouTube (other video-sharing sites are available) for music that I used to listen to. And I’ve discovered a whole new rabbit hole to head down.

That of the music reaction. Where people listen to and comment on songs recommended to them. And the surprising thing is that a lot of them are people of the age that I was in the 70s, commenting on the music that was new back then.

Listening to them enthuse about the music, and reliving my own first listens through their modern insight, has been a validation of just how good those times were.

To my surprise, the people who were my age when what they’re listening to was new, are as in love with it now as I was then.
