Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.
Don’t forget to click the link to see what everyone else has to say on this week’s subject. It’s at the end of my post.
How much of yourself do you share with your readers? How much do you hide?
There’s an excuse for one of my favourite songs.
My life is no secret, but as an introvert, I don’t talk about it much. Because it happened to me, I find it all rather boring, while what I hear about other people’s lives sounds like the sort of thing I would have liked to have experienced. If only I’d had the chance.
Over the years, I’ve found that when I have mentioned some of the things I got up to, nobody ever seemed that interested.
It could be that people think I’m boasting, or making it all up? It’s never been my intention; I don’t do that. I’d rather keep it all to myself.
One thing is for sure. I can’t help noticing that what I’ve done in my life has influenced the things I write. So perhaps that’s the place to look if you want to know more about me. I suspect that’s as good a way as any for me to tell you about myself. I’m giving you a glimpse of my mind and its contents through the stories.
Obviously, I’m not a space adventurer, nor am I any of my characters, yet many of the things they get up to have been inspired by things I’ve seen or done.
The names have been changed. The stories have been embellished and moved to a new location. It could be on another planet or in an alternative universe.
It’s up to you to decide what’s real and where it might have happened.

Yes, I use some of my own experiences in my books too. It’s always good to write about what you know.

Very true, it would be a shame to waste all those expereinces.

The video isn’t showing up for me. (Is it a country-specific thing?) Anyway, I’ve found the bits you’ve shared about your adventures fascinating. Of course, I’m always looking for things I can use in my books!

I’ll look into the video embedding, The song was “The Real Me,” by The Who, if it didn’t show. I used my wife and daughters as the basis of my amateur detective, Andorra Pett. It seemed a shame to waste good material.
