Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

Winter is coming to the northern part of the world. (It’s here!). Do you have any plans, or do you prefer to hide from the cold?
As autumn draws to a close, my routine changes. But one thing stays the same. I always get up at five am. It’s a long story, but I can’t sleep past that time.
In the months when it’s light early, I go for a walk around the cliffs or the harbour before anyone else is about, before settling down with a mug of coffee to do an hour’s writing.
When it’s too dark to walk the cliffs early, I swap around and write first, then walk when it’s lighter. I don’t mind the rain or the cold, I just wrap up and wear a hat.
In general, winters are more productive for me. Because, apart from the daily walk, I prefer to hibernate. As it happens, my wife is not a big fan of the colder weather, either. Apart from my daily walk, we tend to go out less often as a couple, preferring to stay inside on cold and rainy days.
We’re both keen crafters, as well as writing and cooking, I do counted cross-stitch, while Yvonne knits, crochets, and makes greeting cards for the upcoming year.
Winter is the ideal time to catch up on those sorts of activities, in cosy surroundings, with a steady supply of tea and homemade Sourdough digestive biscuits.
After years of having to work on call in all weathers, there’s something very pleasant about being awoken by the sound of the January gales howling and rain lashing against the window, secure in the knowledge that the phone won’t ring and you can turn over and go back to sleep.
Or, depending on the hour, I can put the kettle on and listen to it while I type.

Like you I also get more writing done in the winter, but I don’t hibernate as I love to be outside. We’re at home now for the next 3 months as it’s too cold to be at the caravan, but we still go for long walks.

I love walking the cliffs, but I do enjoy staying in and listening to the wind howl, while I write of alien worlds.

I never enjoyed counted cross, nut I’ve done a lot of printed embroidery and needlepoint.

The structure and mathematical approach appeals to my autistic brain.

I’m very much the same about this time of year. It’s cozy and affords me more time to do art.
Richard Dee
Absolutely.
