NaNoWriMo may be no more, but the challenge lives on.

NaNoWriMo officially came to an end last April. It was sad, although the seeds of its destruction were sown over the last couple of years, when it lost its way somewhat.

The thing is, I’ve done ten NaNo challenges, and for all its faults, it got me into the habit of writing a first draft every November.

And it gave my editor something to do in December.

It was worth doing every year. Because all of my NaNo efforts are now published novels. I’ll be reminding you about them in a series of pre-written posts through November, while I attempt to complete another novel under the same conditions.

This year, as ever, I’ve gone through my collection of WIPs and picked three possible projects. The question is, which one should I do?

My choices are these.

1) Kalyn’s Crew is the second volume of Kalyn Deere’s adventures. Following on from Kalyn Deere, Bounty Hunter, Kalyn’s Crew is another episodic Sci-fi serial with the same overriding story arc.

Kalyn and her friends attempt to solve more mysteries while searching for Kalyn’s father and trying to stay alive.

2) My Place or Yours? This is a dimension swap, multiverse thriller. Two versions of the same man exchange lives, thanks to a quantum experiment. It’s up to them, and their partners, to try and work out what’s going on.

3) Another Rainy Night in Helcon City. This, like my novel Ribbonworld, is Sci-fi Noir. Think Sam Spade in the future. As well as spaceships and futuristic technology, there are femmes fatale and just about every 1940s noir trope you could imagine. Things like gingham-clad waitresses (in techno-diners), world-weary gumshoes and dodgy cops aplenty.

A movie version would star Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Peter Lorre and all the usual suspects. And would be filmed in Black and White.

All of these stories have the same thing in common. I’ve written about 10,000 words of each of them.

BUT, and this is a big one, I have no idea what comes next in any.

Over the next week or so, I’m going to see if I can get any inkling of which I might be able to add 50,000 words to in a month.

Of course, it’s always possible that another contender might make an appearance at the last minute.

Let me know your thoughts, which one would you like to see?

I’ll tell you which one I’ve decided to work on in a couple of weeks.

If you want to know more about anything to do with my writing, just drop me a comment. Until next time,

Happy reading.
