A second season for one of my favourite characters.

Way back in 2023, I started writing a series of short stories. They had an overall theme, even though each one was a separate tale.

They were set in the Dave Travise universe, and Dave himself (Hero of Myra, Freefall, and Promise Me) features in some of them, as do planets, other characters and storylines from those stories. This saved me a lot of time worldbuilding, meaning that I was able to concentrate on the stories.

The collection ended up with eighteen stories and an unresolved ending.

I initially published the stories weekly on Medium, then turned them into an eBook and paperback. I had a few ideas for a second set of adventures for Kalyn and her friends, but as often happens, other projects got in the way.

Over time, the list of ideas grew. Every now and then, I’d write a few words on one of them.

With the recent completion of the two novellas, which I told you about last week, I wanted a new project that wasn’t a long story; working on these seemed to fit the bill perfectly.

At the moment, I have around twenty story outlines for Kalyn’s Crew, continuing the format of the first book.

As well as some new challenges for Kalyn and her friends, a couple of familiar characters turn up for another adventure.

Story subjects include murder by nano-bees, a kidnapping (or two), things that shouldn’t have been overheard, death threats and some more very shady characters. Not forgetting the ordinary people with problems, who are in search of the particular type of justice that Kalyn metes out.

I’ve finished the first story, Six Months on, and I’m getting on pretty well with the second, a continuation of a tale from the first volume.

As for the big question, will Kalyn find her father in the end? I have no idea yet.
