Book Review. Welcome to Hollow Wood, by Sim Alec Sansford.

This week’s review is of the first book in a new mystery series from an author I admire.

He’s the person who has introduced me to the world of Y.A. suspense, teen angst, grisly deeds and their repercussions.

This is about as far from my comfort zone of Sci-fi as I could expect to be, yet thanks to his style of gripping prose, I find myself hooked.

Welcome to Hollow Wood is the third book that I’ve read from the pen of this very talented author. The first was a collaboration with Chantelle Atkins, the second was a stand-alone, called Welcome to Denver Falls. You can read what I thought about that one by clicking here.

The book I want to tell you about is a new one by Sim, it sounded just as interesting.

After the other books, I couldn’t wait to see what kind of a journey I was going to be taken on this time.

All I can say is that I wasn’t disappointed.

You can find my review at the end of this post.

Here’s the description,

#WhatHappenedToKelseaGregory

That’s the question on everyone’s lips.

Everyone apart from Weaver Lawrence, Eliot Chase, Noah Castello and Beth Sinclair, the only ones that know the truth.

At least that’s what they think. Little do they know someone else was there that night in the woods two years ago, and they’re thirsty for revenge.

On the surface, their town of Hollow Wood seems like the perfect vacation destination. Quaint countryside, large estates, wealthy residents with perfect lives and perfect smiles.

But with senior year coming to an end and exams looming; for these four estranged friends, this year’s going to be an absolute KILLER

Here’s a video trailer to whet your appetite.

My thoughts.

Four friends, Weaver, Elliot, Noah and Beth share a secret, about what happened to Kelsea Gregory two years ago. They’ve all been touched by it in different ways. They think that nobody knows except them.

Then, one day, they discover that isn’t true. Someone knows their secret and they start to receive reminders and proof that the events of that night are not forgotten. Someone has an agenda, is it Kelsea, who has come back to taunt them, or someone else?

The question is, who knows and what will they do about it? The four have to decide, while keeping up the pretence that they know nothing and trying to appear normal to everyone around them. Any one of which might be their tormentor.

This was a roller coaster of a book, with the emphasis switching from person to person as more things are revealed. Everyone has their own angst over what happened and their part in it. There are a couple of shocks along the way and we get to the end not knowing who is behind things.

There’s a cliff hanger ending, leaving you desperate to find out more.

This is the first part of a series and I can’t wait to see how the story develops.

Highly recommended.
