Covers and Colours, the first bite is with the eye.

Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

Do you favour certain colour schemes for your book covers?

Please excuse the brevity of this week’s post. I’m in the midst of quite a few things.

Because I understand that branding is important, I try to make sure that all the novels in a series follow the same colour scheme.

The Andorra Pett covers are predominately pastel, while the Sci-fi and Steampunk series are recognisably linked. The covers of my stand-alone stories try to reflect the nature of the content.

I regularly inspect the covers of recent releases in bookshops, to try and identify what is currently popular and give me ideas.

I’m never really sure about the suitability of my covers, they have all been changed a few times, usually in response to suggestions from marketing experts.

Whenever I’ve asked for advice on how to sell more books, the first thing I’ve ever been told is to Change the covers.

Maybe they could do with refreshing. The trouble is, I can’t afford the time to do it myself or the money to get them done.

Anyhow, here are a selection.

See what you think and let me know.

I think you’ve got it spot on in terms of keeping the series tied together nicely. They all clearly belong together.

Thanks, I like my covers, even more now that Yvonne and I collaborate on them.

Your covers are great. I especially like the Andorra Pett covers. I try to pick a colour for each book that represents the country the story takes place. ie, red for Spain, royal blue for England etc.

Thank you, I try to create covers that stand out in thumbnail mode on a small phone screen.

Thanks, it was bang on trend when it was new (2021). I’m not sure if it doesn’t need an update.

Exactly. I DO like to see what others are doing and be just that little bit different.
