Are you still here?

Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

Don’t forget to click the link to see what everyone else has to say on this week’s subject. It’s at the end of my post.

Who stayed by your side during your hardest time in life?

That would be Yvonne.

We first dated in 1975. But it didn’t last.

In 1978, I was working in a pub whilst on leave. I wanted to earn some extra cash, so that I could buy a car to use while I was at college.

One evening, out of the blue, she came into the pub with her boyfriend. We said hello (I knew the boyfriend), and that was about it.

In 1979, out of the blue, I got a letter from her. She had got my mother to forward it to the ship I was on. By now, I was in a relationship. We corresponded, but never took things any further.

In 1980, my relationship ended, while I was at sea. We were still exchanging letters, so the next time I was on leave, I phoned her. She was studying in Brighton and we decided to meet up.

One thing led to another.

Holiday in Cornwall, August 1981.

We married in 1982. She has been with me ever since.

August 7th 1982.

She’s accompanied me on voyages around the world.

On board M.V. La Pampa. New Orleans 1983.

Given me three wonderful children (and five grandchildren).

My girls.

We’ve had some good times and some bad times. And some really bad times. Medical, financial and downright weird. Enough for a series of posts. Some of them have made it into my novels.

Birthday celebrations.

We’ve got through it all by supporting each other, agreeing to disagree at times, but always being tolerant.

Congratulations, it’s not always been easy but it’s always been worth it.

It’s a sad fact, people expect everything to be perfect, then life intervenes and you see what you’re made of.
