Hi, everybody. As you might have noticed, there have been some problems here at Richard Dee Scifi over the last few weeks.
Since July 20th, I have had an intermittent problem with my home internet connection. This gradually got worse over time, until, by the beginning of August, it was almost impossible to do anything online.
Unfortunately, this resulted in my being unable to upload to this website. Hence, I’ve not been able to post as much as I wanted to. I was also unable to surf the internet unless I did it on my phone.
In the absence of Wi-fi, this meant I was getting close to using all of my mobile data allowance.
I’d also like to apologise to everyone who was supposed to be getting emails from me every time I published a new post. I’ve only recently discovered that this hasn’t been happening as it should.
When I investigated further, I found that an upgrade to my website has rendered my old email system unusable.
I was trying to sort all these problems out, but then I suffered a major error that wiped out the whole site. I suspect that it was due to corruption in the data I was trying to upload, probably as a result of the line fault.
It’s taken me a while to get things up and running again. Thankfully, the site was backed up. I now have a new notification system installed, and this is my first attempt to ensure that you actually get the posts and messages you’ve all signed up for.
While the mail delivery issue is fixed, comments on my website are still not being forwarded to me. Which means I have to manually check for them. That’s another job I need to get on top of. After speaking to my hosting service, there are several things that have to be done to restore that functionality. They are working on a fix, and I will be told when it’s all sorted out.
After the telecom engineers (it’s confusing; I have had so many engineers involved over the last few weeks) declared my old landline connection economically unrepairable (our road would have had to have been dug up, at vast expense), I have upgraded my internet to a Fibre connection, for about the same monthly cost. This has resulted in a stable platform that is about seven times faster than the old one.
The time spent without a proper service has meant that there are a lot of things that I need to catch up with. I tried to use my phone as a hub, but the mobile data usage pushed me close to my limit.
Hopefully normal service can now be resumed.
Thank you for your patience.
All being well, I’ll be back with another post on Monday. See you then. Meanwhile, have a great weekend.

I’d love to get your comments, please leave them below. While you’re here, why not take a look around? There are some freebies and lots more content, about me, my writing and everything else that I do.
