Plans for 2020

Happy New Year to all my readers.

It seems like an appropriate time to consider my plans for the new year.

Apparently, 2020 is going to be a time of big change. To enter into the spirit of a new year, a new decade and a new approach, I’m trying to work out what I can do to refresh and revitalise things. I don’t like making resolutions but I’m happy to commit to carrying on with writing, publishing, blogging and reviewing in 2020.

In a bit more detail, first, the novels I have planned for release this year.

I have three, possibly four new novels planned for 2020. Three of them are written and merely require polishing, the fourth is currently no more than a few notes.

I will be publishing my Steampunk adventure, The Sensaurum and the Lexis on March 26th. You can pre-order a copy at mybook.to/The_Sensaurum

Here is the current blurb and the cover,

Is Jackson Thwaite ready to discover the secret of Makewright Orphanage?

Although he doesn’t know it, he has been selected to be part of something vital to the land of his birth.

Norlandia is a country under threat, as never before. The old heroes are but a memory, while evil forces gather, seeking power.  They are armed with the latest devices that perverted science has devised. Control of Norlandia and everyone in it is their ultimate aim.

Who will stand in their way?

Under the command of the mysterious Mortimer Langdon, all that stands between civilisation and anarchy are The Orphan Detectives.

Next will be the third (and possibly concluding) part of the Dave Travise story.

Called Promise Me, it ties up a lot of loose ends and is the result of requests from readers of Myra and Freefall. You can expect it in July. After the novel has been out a while, I’ll probably make all three parts into a boxset.

Again, here is the cover and the first thoughts on a blurb.

“Promise me you’ll make Rixon pay.”

The words were spoken in anger. People had died, revenge was required.

Now Dave Travise has a promise to keep, a Galaxy to search and no time to lose.

He might be surprised at what his efforts to make things right turn up.

Pulled in different directions by the things he has to do, can he keep everyone happy?

He’s about to discover that there’s more than one way to keep a promise

Last of the three is The Hitman and the Thief,

this was my 2019 NaNoWriMo novel. This will be a stand-alone story, something separate from any of my other universes. Publication of this will be a lot later in the year.

Finally, the fourth Andorra Pett story has been on my mind, ever since I finished the third. Andorra Pett takes A Break will star my favourite sleuth as she tries to take a holiday. Needless to say; it all goes horribly wrong. Her special abilities and sense of humour will be required to save the day (as always). Goodness knows when this story will see the light of day.

I already have a provisional cover though.

With the writing out of the way,

I have to turn (reluctantly) to marketing. I’m in the process of refreshing my book descriptions and categories/keywords, using Publisher Rocket to get the latest information about what’s selling.

Then there’s this website, I have a few changes planned here as well. I’ve been reading an excellent book about blogging and it’s shown me that everything I was doing could be done better.

I’ll be starting to put the ideas into practice over the first few weeks of January. Initially, by giving this site a gradual re-model; you will see the changes appear over the next few months. In the five years that I’ve been running this site, it’s grown tremendously, with posts in many different categories apart from writing. At the very least, the layout and search need improving. Rather than take it offline, I’m doing it little by little, as I get the chance, using draft pages to test ideas behind the scenes.

After two years, I’m thinking about stopping the Indie Showcase. I’ve had fun doing it but I’m getting fewer requests from people to appear, I only have guests till the end of February. It may well turn into an occasional feature, if anyone reading this would like to appear, please get in touch.

In its place, I’m starting to re-blog articles from other websites that have caught my eye, Whether I do this on a singular basis or as a weekly digest I haven’t decided yet. I also intend to post more about me, my life and my writing process.

I’d love to get your comments, please leave them below. While you’re here, why not take a look around? There are some freebies and lots more content, about me, my writing and everything else that I do. You can join my newsletter for a free novella and more news by clicking this link.

I’ll be back on Saturday, with my first book review of the year.
