Looking back at 2019

At the end of December, it’s almost obligatory to look back over the year and consider what you’ve achieved.

There’s a risk involved with blowing your own trumpet – but as it’s my website; I feel entitled to. If I can’t tell you what I’ve been up to here, where can I?

This has been a busy year for me, I’ve published four novels, one textbook and eight short stories. I’ve completed NaNoWriMo and I’ve won a competition (my first!).

Let’s begin with the novels.

Life and Other Dreams is a dual-time thriller, where a man’s dreams and his waking life collide, all he has to do is decide which one is the reality.

The Lost Princess is the prequel to Ribbonworld and Jungle Green, We meet Miles Goram, journalist, for the first time and see him set on his path.

Survive is a spin-off from my novel Freefall. The galaxy’s most famous explorer is not who he seems to be.

Andorra Pett and her Sister is the third cosy crime novel featuring my favourite amateur detective. When her sister needs help, who else would she turn too?

Next, we have,

the short stories, among other things these feature time travel, aliens, memory loss, plastic pollution and a Steampunk invention of dazzling brilliance. Not only that, there’s a glimpse of the young Andorra Pett, solving crime whilst on holiday. Click to go to the description page.

In a new departure for me,

I published a work of non-fiction, a textbook based on my world-building workshops. In it, I try to help you design your worlds, using a simple way to fit everything together. There are examples, exercises and two free short stories to illustrate my method.

For the fifth time,

I managed to complete NaNoWriMo. Here’s my certificate. If all goes well, the novel that I drafted, The Hitman and the Thief will be published in late 2020.

I won my first writing prize ever!!!

My Halloween short story, The Veil won an award back in October,

On this website,

I’ve hosted over 50 authors in the Indie Showcase, reviewed a lot of great books and talked a bit about my life. There have been recipes and pictures of Devon. All in all, it’s been a pretty good year.

Don’t miss my next post; to find out what I’ll be doing in 2020.
