Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

What new learning do you have on your list for the upcoming year?
Working on the twin theories that every day is a school day, and that repeating the same thing and expecting a different result is a bad idea, I’m determined to learn a new approach to marketing my writing this year.
The methods I’ve been using to raise awareness of my novels have long been based on what works for other people. However, none of the various methods I’ve seen and tried work for me.
I don’t understand why. I do what’s suggested, I talk to people and listen carefully. No matter what I do, what I tweak or change, I sell nothing much.
The only advice that I can say I’ve successfully followed is – write more books.
So, I need to develop a new way of doing things. Gone is the paid advertising, which only enriches everyone else.
This year, I’ll be (hopefully) learning how to use BlueSky, YouTube and Bookfunnel more efficiently, to maximise my reach, increase engagement and sell more books. My only expense will be time.
I have no idea how I’ll get on, at my age, trying something new is daunting. But staying the same and hoping things get better seems like a waste of time.

I have a lot to learn on the marketing score! Happy to bounce ideas with you and see if we can come up with some things that work!

Sounds like a plan, it seems to be a continually shifting goalpost sort of thing.

I’ve been using BookFunnel for a long time. It increases your mailing list, but unfortunately don’t expect a huge boost in sales figures. I’ve come to the conclusion that nothing works; I expect nothing and so any sale is a bonus!
Richard Dee
Yeah, I’ve had 200 new subscribers so far this month, but no sales. Still, nothing ventured. It will be interesting to see if anyone actually reads and reviews my free offering.

That’s a good approach-one of the hardest things in a writing life is attracting attention for your work. @samanthabwriter from

People think I’m waving to get attention. In fact, I’m drowning.

Seems like we are all in the same boat as far as marketing goes!

I have to console myself with the thought that at least my writing is making someone rich. I just wish it was me.
