We’re all going on a Summer Holiday. Or not.

Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

What are your favorite summer plans?

I just like to chill with my family. Living in one of the U.K.’s tourist hotspots means that it’s harder to get around in August, so if we have places we want to go, we try to get there in June and July, when it’s quieter. Or in September, when the weather can be glorious.

We get the picnic table and chairs out in the back garden at the end of April. Living behind a churchyard means that our garden has the most fantastic borrowed landscape. It’s somewhere to sit and relax all day.

Having travelled the world as part of my job, occasionally accompanied by my wife, we can’t be bothered with all the hassle involved in going abroad any more.

Besides that, there are so many fantastic towns and so much beautiful scenery to explore without travelling far from where I live now.

I can walk to the coast in ten minutes, or be on Dartmoor in half an hour by car.

To be honest, we both hate making plans or being tied to a schedule. We always have. We’re much more a spur-of-the-moment operation these days, now that we have no other commitments. If we feel like going somewhere, we do. If we wake up and can’t be bothered, we’re staying put.

I agree with you; we can’t be bothered with holidays abroad either. All we want now is to be at our caravan on the Isle of Wight.

Very nice too, that’s exactly how we feel about South Devon.

I waited years to get back here. Now I have, I’m not going anywhere.
