Any publicity is good publicity, right?

Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

Many of us are frustrated by publicity. It’s our least favourite part of writing. But what’s your favourite part of publicity?

This has been a difficult post to write.

Not because I don’t have anything to say but because my computer has died. I’m writing this on my phone, which is making my thumb ache as I squint at the screen and type.

Getting back to the subject, my favourite thing is the choice that I have taken, to not engage in any publicity.

As an introvert with social phobia, I found that the stress caused by attempting to market my stories wasn’t worth it. For the sake of my mental health, I decided that it was better to keep quiet.

I write for myself. I publish what I’ve written and I might tell a few trusted people, but that’s as far as it goes.

And I feel happy about it.

I could say more, but the effort of typing on this minute keyboard is making me dizzy.

It was never my intention at the start. Somehow, I got talked into it. How I wish I hadn’t been seduced by the false prospect of fortune and glory!

I wrote a short story on my phone, years ago. Never again. I have a small keyboard but it has the wrong connection.

Thank you. I have an old and slow laptop to keep me going, until I can get a replacement.
