Art for Art’s sake. And keep it local.

Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

Who is your favorite artist? (Painting, photo, sculpture…)

We are really spoilt for choice in Devon. It’s to be a very creative part of the country. Everywhere you go locally, artists and creators are working in all types of media. Most of the places we visit have galleries or events covering all types of creation.

Textiles, photography, chainsaw carving, pottery and many others.

It’s hard to have a particular favourite, maybe a favourite at the moment is more of a thing?

But, overall, I have to give a big shout-out to local artist Laura Wall. I have her calendar in my office, plus several of her notebooks (which are far too nice to use).

I love her quirky style and depiction of local landmarks. Here’s her vision of Teignmouth and Shaldon.

We are regular visitors to her gallery in Teignmouth. She’s always working on something new.

For copyright reasons, I won’t post any more of her artwork here, but please take a look at her website.

It’s very easy to overlook the local small scale artists and creators. I think many are worthy of so much more attention.
