Every dog has it’s day

Welcome back to another blog hop, with #OpenBook. Here’s this week’s prompt.

Don’t forget to click the purple button to see what everyone else has to say on this week’s subject. It’s at the end of my post.

Kelly Williams’ dog wants to know: “Why does she spend so much time at the computer and not scratching my ears?’ What does your pet want to know? (If you don’t have a pet, feel free to make up an answer.)

At the moment, I don’t have a pet. 😢

In the past, as a family, we’ve had Dogs, Cats, Hamsters, Guinea Pigs and Fish as pets. All of them had personalities.

The cats tended to be aloof and indifferent to what we were doing. As if they were only with us because they hadn’t found anywhere better. I always got the impression that they neither wanted or needed anything form me.

We had one who used to disappear for days, eventually we found that he was permanently on the move, being fed as a stray at several other houses in our village.

Our Dogs had a totally different way of looking at life. We had exclusively Labradors, including a spell as trainers for assistance dogs. As well as the trainees, we had four of our own, between 1997 and 2016.

Labradors are fairly uncomplicated dogs, as long as they get a steady supply of food, and the odd bit of attention, they can take or leave the whole exercise thing. They are just as happy lying around as they are exercising. Very often, if it was raining, they would refuse to go outside.

But, if you could get them out into a place where there were interesting smells, they loved a walk, or even a swim.

I’ve always found that they’re good listeners, with a total lack of prejudice, or judgement.

All they really wanted was to be noticed and to get a little love and affection. Just like the rest of us.

We had a cocker spaniel that hated getting his feet wet. And we lived in a rainy part of Oregon at the time, so getting him to go outside was a challenge some days.

Their behaviour can be so strange sometimes, like us, they’re all different.

They’re a fantastic breed. My daughter was wary of dogs. She was cured of that phobia by our Labrador, Winnie.
